Postponing morning workout = morning fail

This morning was awful. Even though I was up early, Joe decided we should work out tonight after work because he didn’t sleep well and we were both a little sore. So, I had coffee, and then tried to get ready and confused chaos reigned. Everything was a mess, I couldn’t get myself in gear, Joe was slow-moving, and Sophie, sensing our tiredness, decided today was good morning to cry about everything. Frustration, grumpiness….ugh.

I did NOT realize how much working out first thing in the morning was helping me focus. I don’t do mornings–never have. Even with coffee, I’m half asleep and constantly forgetting where I put the hairbrush, where my bag is, or to pack my lunch. I knew the workouts were making me more awake, but I didn’t realize they were helping me just overall function better in the morning.

So, we’ll catch-up tonight, and then tomorrow morning, no matter how tempting it is to sleep a little later or snuggle under the covers, I’m making sure we press play on the DVD player. I’ve made it public now. 🙂

Bucket Listing and Bucket Filling

I think most are familiar with the idea of a “bucket list”–things you want to do before you kick the proverbial bucket. A movie from a few years ago, “The Bucket List,” popularized the phrase.

Not exactly due to the movie, but from other inspiration, I decided to make my own “bucket list” about three years ago. It has been very useful to me to keep me motivated and I even like to see if I can stack my bucket items–for instance, I wanted to go to a Con and meet Terry Pratchett, so I managed to do both at the same time by going to the North American Discworld Convention last summer. (I’ll post more on that later, because it was lots of fun!).

A lot of my goals either have directly to do with fitness (like running a 5K, wearing a bikini, or taking an extended hike), and a lot of the goals just require me to feel good if I’m going to get around to all of them! So, that was the inspiration for this blog and my Facebook site.

I’ve always thought of completing a bucket list item as “putting it in my life bucket”–collecting the memory and the experience. I found out the “bucket filling” is an initiative in many schools. In fact, the local middle school  near where I take my daughter to preschool has “Welcome, Bucket Fillers!” on the outdoor announcement sign, and it’s apparently a widespread movement. According to the FAQ on Bucket Fillers.com, the bucket represents the emotional and mental self. “Bucket Filling” is saying a kind word or doing a kind deed. Likewise, a kindness to you fills your own bucket. “Bucket dipping,” on the other hand, is taking away from someone’s bucket by an unkindness or harsh word.

So, in my quest to meet my own goals and fill my bucket with life experiences, I hope that I can be not only a bucket lister, but a bucket filler. I want to help others have a filled-up bucket! I think that this blog is for me to talk about both. :

Resistance

I do not really want to exercise today. I don’t really want to do anything. I’m so tired from the week on the weekends, that I want to stay in my pajamas all weekend, drink coffee, and do nothing more challenging than surf the web. But I can’t do that. We all get so little time off, so I need to make the most of my weekends.

Instead of being motivating, though, that idea in itself makes me anxious. So much to do! Family stuff, house stuff, personal fun stuff, writing-of-the-dissertation stuff. There are so many options that I want to maximize that I end up in paralyzed by choice. Then, my brain tells me, “You should just take it easy because you are tired and it will be a hard week and you’ll never get all this stuff done, anyway.” So, I resist the things I need to do (due to tiredness? frustration? sheer overwhelm?) and end up de-energized and not in a good way to start my Monday.

So, I’m working on it. I don’t have to do everything all at once this weekend. I just have to do the things that are in front of me. I’ll feel better if a get some small steps done even if I don’t get EVERYTHING checked off my list. So, today, my list includes exercise, church, writing, and time with my family. The windows might not get cleaned (yeah, just thought about that one), and I might not get to my Pinterest to-do list, but I’ll live my day instead of analyzing it to death.

This is the first post of the rest of my life.

This is the obligatory first post for my blog.  I’ve had dozens of blogs and I’ve let them all wither, so I’m going to be sharing this one because it is important to me.  On this blog, I’ll share my health and fitness progress as I seek to be fit so I can do all the things on my bucket list (and add to it!)  I’ve had my current list for about 3 years, and I’ve managed to reach several of the goals I set for myself.  I plan on making a post for each of those to document my progress on the life list.  Some are more interesting than others, but I’ve got words and pictures to share!  Be thrilled by my adventures in crochet!  Gasp at my audacity in Vogon poetry!  Feel the excitement as I try to build the ultimate tree house!  More to come…

What has prompted me to start blogging anew is my recent introduction to Beachbody products (Shakeology and Power 90, specifically) and the renewed energy I’ve felt.  I signed up to be a coach because of the discount, plus the idea of helping others to meet their fitness goals is wonderful to me.  I taught Zumba for 1.5 years because I wanted to offer others the fun and freedom I felt while dancing to fitness.  I’ve since moved on due to my schedule, but Zumba is still going in my town, and for that I’m very thankful.  I want to somehow continue on helping others–and myself –be healthier and feel better.  Right now, Power 90 workouts six days a week and a breakfast of a Shakeology smoothie are really helping me to feel better.  I have some serious fitness goals, and I know that blogging about them will hold me accountable.

So, stay tuned.  This is not just a sales blog or a personal blog. While I share my stories and progress, I hope others who read these pages will share their own journeys and triumphs.  I love blogging and Facebook and Twitter for the community they inspire, and I hope this to be a place of community.  If you are interested in Beachbody, by all means visit my site http://www.beachbodycoach.com/adbeau.  But even if you aren’t, I hope you enjoy my blog.
